Taca Sui, born in Qingdao, studied at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Rochester Institute of Technology in the United States. Unlike other contemporary Chinese photographers of his generation, his work is rooted in traditional texts, focusing on the exploration of ruins and the reconstruction of memory. His works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the CAFA Art Museum, and the Phoenix Art Museum, among others. Recent exhibitions include “Art of the Mountain: Through the Chinese Photographer‘s Lens” at the China Institute Gallery in New York, “Stele Records - Huang Yi Project” at Chambers Fine Art in New York, “Immortal Present: Art and East Asia” at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, USA, “Chinese Photography: Twentieth Century and Beyond” at Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in Beijing, “Odes, The Art of the Chinese Album” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the 19th Biennale of Sydney in Australia.
