Vemo Hang (b. 1991, Shanghai) is a Berlin-based artist whose work synergizes painting, sculpture, and digital media. For Hang, her experiment-driven practice is a way tocapture multi-dimentional sensibility: to condense color, spatial form, and material tactility into affectual states of presence. Her work often resides in an oscillating tension between condensation and atmosphere, presence and elusiveness, matter and energy.
Her work is equally shaped by her migratory experience, reflecting a search for novel modes of embodied thinking within a broader contemporary cultural condition marked by drifting dynamics and eclectic fragmentedness.
Hang received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (2013), her MFA from Zürich University of the Arts (2019), and studied MA in art history from Freie Universität Berlin (2020). She has participated in international residencies including Slade Research Center (London), Pilotenküche (Leipzig), and Multipoint (Slovakia). Her works have been exhibited across Europe, the U.S., and Asia. She is currently collaborating with AroundSpace Gallery (Shanghai) and Kang Contemporary Gallery (Berlin).
